Beach’n'River’s Excellent AdventuresA Journal of Reflection Written to Inspire, Offer Tips and Motivation To Those Who Challenge Themselves Daily To Take The Road Not Taken

In this blog you will discover how Alabama Gulf Coast Weekly Vacation Rental Home owners Jerry and Shelly spontaneously purchase a piece of property near Gulf Shores, AL while on a carefree Airstream road trip to becoming proud owners of a weekly lodging rental and kayak rental business.

Follow them in this journal to discover how their dreams are nearly crushed by personal injury, natural disasters and financial hardships. Learn of their day to day struggles and triumphs meeting the challenges of self-employment.

Most of all discover yourself through this adventure.

Find the threads of commonality between us — the desire to live a free life, to be happy in life — and for some of us — the desire to pass on some happiness to others.

If you like what you read and can identify, feel free to email or comment. We’d love to hear from you.

The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is tucked away just blocks from the beach and is home to more than 300 animals including lions, tigers, bears, monkeys, macaws and more. There’s also a petting zoo, reptile house, aviary and daily animals shows in the summer.

The Baldwin County Heritage Museum is not filled with elaborate antiques or expensive collections – it holds bits and pieces collected from the daily lives of the men and women who built this county. BCHM represents the grass roots of our society. Over 20,000 square feet covering 5 acres provide a place for visitors to reconnect with the early history of Baldwin County. The museum believes that individuals who are allowed to reach out and touch the past will hold the future with greater care. Experience the heritage – and share the culture of Baldwin County.

This “off the beaten path house” will pleasantly surprise you with the feeling of seclusion, yet it is close to all the beach action you can handle. The house is filled with little details and character, with all the amenities of home. Breakfast on the patio was relaxing and the kayaking on the river behind the house was entertaining…. a great way to enjoy nature! We were close to the beach when we wanted to go there and right up the street was outlet shopping or groceries, when needed. I recommend this for anyone that wants the best of both worlds but easy on the pocketbook!

Indulging in a fall vacation this year was wonderful. This Gulf Shores, AL vacation rental home was beautifully decorated, in a old style “retro” design which seemed perfect for this location and was perfect for our needs. From the “Tiki god” on the outdoor deck to the retro design colours, my friend and I couldn’t have been more comfortable. We were able to rest, do some birdwatching, shop locally and one evening had a wonderful seafood dinner, feasting from locally caught shrimp in the Gulf. We even watched the boats pull up to the local fish shop with the freshly caught fish ! I’ve rented homes on the beach in previous years, but the hassle of bringing everything from sheets, towels, soap, cooking utensils… I was always exhausted from packing and unpacking the supplies needed to survive the week. This experience was wonderful. The only thing I needed to unpack was a cooler of wine spritzers and my suitcase. Thanks for a wonderful fall getaway !
