The House
An Alabama Gulf Coast Riverfront Vacation Rental Home
Just ten minutes from the white, sandy beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama, you’ll find BeachnRiver Vacation Rental Home nestled between tall live and river oaks in a tropical waterfront setting off the bank of the Bon Secour River.
BeachnRiver Vacation Rental Home began as a beach-front family vacation home on Orange Beach, Alabama, until Hurricane Ivan took its legs. The home was transported to its current location at river’s end of the Bon Secour River and has been a work in progress for the past two years to emerge as a weekly vacation rental.
The three bedroom two bath home was renovated to pay homage to its ’70s beach-shack roots and is furnished in a funky retro-style with comfort in mind.
Make plans to wake early to quiet river sounds and enjoy your coffee on the deck under a honey-scented fringe tree — or plan to have breakfast on the upper covered deck for a more expansive view while inhaling scents of jasmine, gardenia and sweet olive.
Turtles, bream and mullet welcome a meal of dog food or bread crumbs and will greet daily with regular feeding. Chickadees, nuthatches and cardinals love a well-stocked feeder of nuts and dried fruit but will serenade anyway. Hummingbirds love the abundance of trumpet-shaped flowers along the property and butterflies flock to the many plantings of colorful flowers that border the lush St. Augustine lawn.
Take an early morning canoe ride on the Bon Secour River and observe mullet jumping, turtles scurrying, herons feeding and pelicans diving as mist rises from the cool waters of the several spring fed holes along the Bon Secour River. Take along a fishing pole to catch bass or throw a net to grab a mess of mullet to fry. If you dare, take a dip in one of two “ice box” swimming holes just around the bend for a refreshing start to your exciting day.
The Bon Secour River has a rich shrimping history and life along the Bon Secour River is just as rich. As you canoe or boat you will find tree swings and “swimming holes,” hammocks filled with nappers, fishermen, canoers, paddle-boaters and families on docks grilling, visiting and having a good ol’ time.
Plan to visit the historic village of Bon Secour and purchase freshly caught shrimp or fish off boats as fishermen dock to sell their catch to various seafood markets that dot the river.
There is much to do in this part of paradise and Beach’n'River Vacation Rental Home offers up the best of two worlds along the beautiful Alabama Gulf — the excitement of beach life and serenity of river life.
